CLEANING THEIR MESS

first_imgMy dog rubs herself against my clothes every day. Is there any way to get dog hair off my clothes. I don’t want to wash them every day. Here are some suggestions for your clothes, carpets, sofas, bed linen: Soak the palm of your hand. Wipe the pet hair off in a downward motion. The hair will ball up and stick to your damp hand. This works because the hair becomes wet, therefore heavier. This results in it being unable to stick to your pants (or whatever surface you’re dealing with) in response to static electricity. Also Read – Feel what you fear Slightly dampen a clean, regular kitchen sponge. Use a sponge mop if you’re removing pet hair from a low-pile carpet, in which case the floor should be thoroughly vacuumed first. Rub the fabric, upholstery, or carpet with the sponge. The fur should roll up into clumps that you can pick off by hand. Rub Velcro curlers on the surface to catch the hair. If the curler has a metal inner form, it can be bent to reach corners. Use sellotape to peel off some fur. Just wrap some around your hand with the sticky, adhesive part sticking out and tap it on the fur-covered areas. Use masking tape. It’s relatively cheap and you can tear off a piece, tape the ends together, and then rotate the tape while removing pet hair from clothing or other surfaces Also Read – Homecoming Put on a latex glove. Rub the surface wearing it. The pet hair should stick to your glove. This also works with rubber gloves or cloth gardening gloves with a rubber coating on the palm. A rubber bristle push broom can work in the same way on floors. Dampen the glove or rubber section of the glove for increased effectiveness. You can use dishwashing gloves. If you lightly dampen them and rub them over your clothes, the static they create and the texture of the palms will cause the stray hairs to cling to the gloves. Once they become covered with hair, give them a rinse and start again. Using the gloves for hair collection also works great on upholstered furniture. Inflate a balloon. Rub it across the surface that has pet hair on it. The static on the balloon’s surface will attract the hair, which you can collect and then re-use the balloon to get more hair. Use a rubber broom. This is effectively for especially stubborn pet hair that sticks to a surface. The bristles work with static electricity and the hair jumps onto the brush. Use rubber soles. Use a pair of shoes with a rubber sole, like a trainer for example. Wearing the shoe(s) (the easiest option), drag your foot along the rug or carpet and watch all the hair bunch up! Simply lift up the hair. Buy a lint brush. These work on most types of dog and cat hair. Keep it by the door for quick touch-ups before going out. To clean quickly, rub the lint brush in the “wrong” direction with a damp washcloth Keep several clothes brushes handy for a quick clean up before leaving home. If you have woollen clothes that are covered with hair, use a clothes steamer or even hang them in a steamy bathroom before using the clothes brush. The dampness will help the fibers release the pet hair, making it easier to brush away. A sticky clothes roller is often best for removing pet hair. If you don’t have one (or can’t find it), use some sturdy packing tape wrapped around your hand with the sticky side out. Vacuum your home and furniture often. Much of the pet hair on your clothes comes from the furniture. (Views expressed and information provided are personal. Send your questions to [email protected])last_img read more

AAP asks Cong for rethink on alliance

first_imgNEW DELHI: After hard bargaining by both sides over the last three months, alliance talks between the AAP and the Congress on Friday reached the last step of either yes or no. The AAP has asked Congress to rethink on its stand about Delhi and Haryana pacts, said AAP leaders. AAP has also postponed filing of three nominations scheduled for Saturday. “Today also we have again given a chance, people of the country want that. We have given Congress the last chance to think it over, let’s see what happens,” AAP Delhi incharge GopalRai said. Meanwhile, AAP candidates for Chandni Chowk, North West and East Delhi LS seats, earlier scheduled to file nominations on Saturday, will now file nominations on Monday. Congress has offered four seats to the AAP as part of the alliance and has opted for the Chandni Chowk, North West Delhi and the New Delhi seats for itself. Earlier, AAP’s Sanjay Singh on Wednesday met Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad for alliance talks in Haryana in a seat-sharing formula of 6:3:1, sources said. However, the sources said JJP chief Dushyant Chautala is not ready to form an alliance with Congress. “From day one, we had clarified that we could not join hands with the Congress whose hollow and corrupt policies affected the country…I want to clarify that there is no question of forming an alliance with the Congress and we have held no talks with the Congress in this matter,” he said on Thursday. However, the sources said that the AAP took the initiative to convince Chautala. Sources said that AAP has now put forward a fresh offer for Congress. According to sources, AAP agreed to 7:2:1 formula in Haryana instead of 6:3:1, and 4:3 in Delhi. However, party leaders said that Congress has been refusing for a tie-up in Haryana but AAP will still make the final push. The AAP announced in March all its seven candidates for the national capital, where polling will be held on May 12. It fielded Pankaj Gupta from Chandni Chowk, Dilip Pandey from North East Delhi, Atishi from East Delhi, Brajesh Goel from New Delhi, Gugan Singh from North West Delhi and Raghav Chadha from South Delhi. Balbir Singh Jakhar was the last name announced by the party for the West Delhi constituency. However, Jakhar became the first among the seven to file his nomination on Thursday.last_img read more

Credit: Magee Sprague | For The LanternThe Ohio State men’s volleyball team (20-5, 11-3 MIVA) begins MIVA tournament play on Saturday against the Quincy Hawks (12-18, 0-14 MIVA) at St. John Arena. As an eight seed in the tournament, the Hawks were defeated handedly by the Buckeyes twice in the regular season, losing 3-0 in both matches. Though Quincy finished with 12 wins during the regular season, none of them came in conference play.Despite having many new players on the roster, head coach Pete Hanson said he was proud his team finishing first in the conference and clinching home-court advantage for both the quarterfinal and semifinal games.“We put ourselves in the position to host the playoffs here in Columbus as long as we keep winning,” Hanson said. “All the new faces that we put on the floor this year and having them come together and accomplish that is a pretty big thing.”Saturday night’s match will kick off tournament week, something senior outside hitter Maxime Hervoir said he’s looking forward to, even with all the outside stress of the Spring Semester winding down. “It’s the hardest part,” he said. “You have all the school stuff that is going on and at the same time the finals, the final papers, all that stuff, and you have to really handle everything at the same time—but that’s what makes it the best because it’s the most intense thing.”Hervoir said it’s important for the team to go back to what it has done all season.“It’s important to remember that if we are here it’s cause we deserve it and that we can actually win and remember our potential,” Hervoir said. “We are a good team, we’re a really good team—and also remember to play together because that’s how we’re going to win.”If the Buckeyes beat Quincy, they will play the winner of the Lewis and Fort Wayne quarterfinal matchup. Ball State, McKendree, Lindenwood and Loyola will be competing for a spot in the final on the other side of the bracket. Ohio State will take on Quincy in the MIVA quarterfinal at St. John Arena at 7 p.m. Saturday. read more
