Cox/Getty Images)Alabama head coach Nick Saban has released a statement on the controversial coaching news surrounding the Crimson Tide’s program this week.Earlier in the week, AL.com reported that ex-Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin had been brought into the Alabama football program for a consulting role.Durkin, of course, was fired by Maryland in mid-October stemming from an investigation into the Terrapins’ program following the death of a player.Alabama was harshly criticized for bringing Durkin into its program. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum called the move “embarrassing.”Saban has released a statement this evening, clarifying what happened.“DJ Durkin is spending a few days with our staff in Tuscaloosa from a professional development standpoint. He has not been hired in any capacity at (Alabama).
